Michel Guyot

C'est en fouinant sur internet en juillet 2011 pour trouver des informations sur le Dewoitine D-520 que je suis tombé en extase devant un magnifique tableau représentant trois D-520 sur un fond de ciel d'orage ; ce tableau était signé "Michel Guyot". J'ai donc entrepris de chercher les coordonnées de cet artiste peintre que j'ai trouvées. Je l'ai contacté et ce dernier m'a donné son accord pour mettre son oeuvre en ligne. Plutôt peintre de Marine et Brestois d'origine, Michel Guyot a peint entre autre le Dunkerque sur lequel son père était embarqué. Son père fut également un rescapé du triste épisode de Mers-El-Kébir en juillet 1940. While surfing on internet in July, 2011 to find information about the Dewoitine D-520, I found a magnificent artwork representing three D-520s over a thunderstorm sky ; this artwork was signed "Michel Guyot". I then began to look for the coordinates of this artist which I found. I contacted him and by chance he gave me his agreement to put his work in line. Rather artist of Marine and native of Brest (Brittany - France), Michel Guyot painted among others the Dunkerque on which his father was embarked. His father also was a survivor of the sad episode of Mers-El-Kébir in July, 1940. Robert Guyot, survivor of Mers el-Kebir

Robert Guyot, s'engage dans la Marine en 1938 à 18 ans. Après ses classes, il embarque sur le Dunkerque, fleuron de la Royale, en qualité de radio-électricien. Il vivra toute la carrière du bâtiment de ligne (campagne de Narwik, transport de l'or de la Banque de France au Canada, traque du Graaf Spee, attentats de Mers el-Kebir, réparation du navire et retour à Toulon début 1942) mais ne verra pas son sabordage car il sera démobilisé à l'été 42.

Robert Guyot, enlisted in the Navy in 1938, when he was 18. After his classes, he embarked on the Dunkerque, flagship of the "Royale", as radio-electrician. He lived all the career of the battleship (campaign of Narwik, transport of the gold of the Bank of France in Canada, pursuit of the Graaf Spee, attack of Mers el-Kebir, repair of the battleship and return in Toulon in early 1942) but did not see its scuttling, being demobilized in summer, 42.

Les dégâts suite à l'attaque aérienne des avions de l'Ark Royal, le 6 juillet. Ce jour là, Robert Guyot aura beaucoup de chance : il sautera à l'eau sous le feu des avions anglais qui larguaient leurs torpilles mais mitraillaient au passage les hommes en panique sur le pont et dans la mer.
The damages after the air attack of the aircrafts of the Ark Royal, on July 6th. This day, Robert Guyot was very lucky : he jumped in the water under the fire of the English aircrafts which released their torpedoes but also machine-gunned the men in panic on the deck and in the sea.
