Début mai 2019, je fais l'acquisition de quelques numéros du fameux magazine "L'ILLUSTRATION" de la période 1939 - 1945. Parmi ceux-ci le numéro 5053 daté du 6 janvier 1940. J'y découvre avec plaisir 4 pages en couleurs intitulées "L'aviation de chasse française". Ces 4 pages étaient illustrées par des aquarelles signées par un certain "Géo Ham". Après quelqus recherches, j'ai découvert que cet artiste s'appelait Georges Hamel, né à Laval (Mayenne) le 18 septembre 1900.
In early May 2019, I bought some issues of the famous magazine "L'ILLUSTRATION" from the period 1939 - 1945. Among them the number 5053 dated January 6, 1940. I discover in it with great pleasure 4 pages in color entitled "The French fighter aviation". These 4 pages were illustrated by artworks signed by a certain "Geo Ham". After some researches, I discovered that this artist was named Georges Hamel, born in Laval (Mayenne, France) on September 18, 1900.

En juin 2022, je fus contacté par René Follézou, qui m'informa que Géo Ham avait été ami de la famille Potez et qu'il avait peint également le Potez Cams 161. Découvrez ci-après cette peinture ainsi bien sûr que les pages du magazine "LiLLUSTRATION".
In June 2022, I was contacted by René Follézou, who informed me that Géo Ham had been a friend of the Potez family and that he had also painted the Potez Cams 161. Discover this artwork below as well as the pages of the magazine "ILLUSTRATION".

En 1913, à l'occasion d'une course de voitures et de motos organisée dans les rues de Laval, Georges Hamel réalise une série d’aquarelles. En 1917, il est reçu à l'École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. En 1928, il devient collaborateur de la revue "L’Illustration" et réalise des illustrations d’avions et d’automobiles. En 1931, il est nommé Peintre officiel du ministère de l'Air. Georges Hamel décède à Paris le 30 juin 1972.
In 1913, during a race of cars and motorcycles organized in the streets of Laval, Georges Hamel produced a series of watercolors. In 1917, he integrated the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. In 1928, he became a contributor of the magazine "L'Illustration" and made illustrations of aircrafts and automobiles. In 1931, he was appointed Official Painter of the Ministry of Air. Georges Hamel died in Paris on June 30, 1972.
